Clean technologies encompass a range of solutions that are designed with social and environmental impacts in mind.
Clean technolgy includes renewable energy (wind power, solar power, biomass, hydropower, bio-fuels), information technology, green transportation, electric motors, green chemistry etc and other solutions not yet imagined. It is a means to create electricity and fuels with a smaller environmental footprint.
Nearly 60% of New Zealand’s electrical power generation comes from hydroelectricity. Wind power generation is small but growing. And New Zealand, as a foundation signatory to the Kyoto Protocol, has a long established commitment to sustainable energy use and carbon neutrality.
New Zealand and Wellington in particular is well placed to leverage many existing activities in the area of sustainability through reduction in energy use paralleled with the search for new forms of energy.
Players in this area in the Wellington region include, amongst others, National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research, Industrial Research Ltd, Transpower, Meridian Energy, Beca Carter and Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority.
Creative HQ currently has two clean technology businesses and is actively seeking other clean technology businesses to benefit from our intensive incubation programme.
Our clean technology businesses are Spectionz and Wetox.
SpectioNZ Technologies is a clean technology company specialising in the conversion of organic waste into products of value.
Wetox is an exciting clean technology project for the treatment of liquid organic waste.
