Murray describes himself as having his "thermostat set on high”. While methodical and process oriented, he brings, to any team he works with, a high-energy, responsive approach and a reputation as a trouble-shooter prepared to make those brave calls.
Murray’s working life began in the corporate environment where he quickly established himself as a hotshot manager of people and projects. By his early 20s, he was responsible for running New Zealand Rail’s nationwide telephony network. Before long, he was appointed project manager for a multi-million dollar project. But by his mid to late 20s, Murray had had enough of the fast-track and vowed to devote the rest of his working life to a succession of “cool jobs”. That philosophy has given him a variety of experiences in everything from working in exporting to developing new manufacturing processes, experiences that Creative HQ’s incubation companies, constantly refer to as a source for inspiration and guidance.
"vowed to devote the rest of his working life to a succession of cool jobs"
Murray has undertaken indepth academic research in areas such as market validation, purchase behaviour, and client loyalty – some of which is borne out of his experience in product and service marketing roles over 20 years.
He has a strong product commercialisation background, honed during a three-year stint running Massey University’s IP licensing unit (New Tech Developments).
One of Murray’s core specialities is helping a business position itself for success in troubled times. As others are felled by recessions and market setbacks, he is determined to show Creative HQs incubation businesses how to innovate, survive and thrive.
Murray was born in Greymouth and loves whitebaiting and old fast machines.
